Frequently Asked Questions

General Tips:

  • Arrive to class without expectations or preconceived ideas of what you can or cannot do. Just be wherever you are that day in your body and let go of what you need to in order to be present in your practice.

  • The class is meant to challenge you so you can grow, however if at any time the class becomes too challenging or difficult, take a beak! Let go of frustrations and be grateful for what you can do!

  • A gentle reminder: turn off cell phones or switch to silent mode.

  • Namaste! A yoga salutation often said at the end of a physical yoga class that can be translated to mean, “The divine spirit in me recognizes and honors the divine spirit it you.”

What to do before class and what to bring:

What equipment do I need?
If you have a sticky mat, towel, yoga block or blanket, please bring it to class. There will be limited props and mats at each class for use to borrow.

What type of clothing should I wear?
Wear something comfortable that will allow you to have complete free range of movement. A shirt that stays in place or one that can be tucked in, and if you go for shorts, make sure that they are not too short. Layers are also recommended in the winter so that as your body warms and you create that energy and heat in your practice, you can adjust accordingly.

Can I eat before class?
Ideally, it is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach, at least two to three hours after a meal (or three to four hours after a very large meal). If you are hungry, drink fruit juice or eat a piece of fruit half an hour before class. Always remember to stay hydrated. Bring a bottle of water to class if you are able.

Personal Ability:

“But I’m not flexible enough to take yoga”
A common thought however, yoga is ideal to increase your flexibility.

“I have an injury… I recently had surgery… I have physical limitations… I am recovering from recent illness… can I still do yoga?”
Accommodations can be made for some conditions. Please contact us prior to class to discuss the nature of your abilities and find a class that is right for you.
